The Cordillera Huayhuash is a small, remote and compact mountain range to the south of the Cordillera Blanca. The trekking and hiking routes make a complete circuit of the range, and offer unequalled close-up views of majestic high peaks and glaciers and many large blue trout-filled lakes. The Huayhuash contains spectacular rugged peaks including the second highest mountain in Peru, Yerupaja (21,768feet) and Siula Grande (20,814feet)- the mountain made famous by the Joe Simpson's book and movie "Touching The Void.” We will visit Jo Simpson's base camp at the base of Siula Grande. If You have not seen the movie, here is the link: https://youtu.be/J9lRXpn8br0

Disclaimer: This is just an outline for the trek. As always, mountain weather or inclement snow conditions play a role in day-to-day planning. Our main objective is to circumnavigate the range.
Initially, we’ll spend a few nights in Huaraz (3048 Meters) and do several day hikes in Cordillera Blanca to further our acclimatization. Once on the circuit around Huayhuash, each day after breakfast, we’ll pack our camp and hike 5-7 hrs. daily. There will be multiple opportunities to fish for trout in the most unbelievable scenery. Photo opportunities daily!
